As a live-music promoter, I created / promoted circa 2000 gigs & concerts

Between 1985 and 2000, as a live-music promoter, I created and promoted near on 2000 gigs and concerts.

These ranged from such humble beginnings as pub “toilets” (as we call those tiny, flea-infested back-rooms) to international music festivals such as the annual Anglo-French-German MA-NO live-music festival; from one-band gigs to the giant 200-band extravaganzas of The National Battle Of The Bands and The Metal Mountain rock competitions.

While I had no intentions of incorporating my pre-Skipton musical experience into my new life, news soon got out that the town had a special-events organiser in its midst and it wasn’t long before I was called on.

These days I get asked on to do all kind of things; but mostly I enjoy creating my own events or highlights which afford me simple career satisfaction. I've managed to win several awards for community harmony too! To date I have:

Arranged and managed events for the Skipton - Simbach Twinning Association for 2001-2.

Arranged and mounted an exhibition of local history at Skipton Library.

Dressed as the 6th Earl of Thanet and appeared, on TV, in a stunt  promoting Skipton on behalf of the Skipton Chamber of Trade.

Wrote and produced a play “Boats of Wood - Men of Iron” for Parish Church School, Skipton, (which had its World Premier at Skipton Waterways Festival 2002.)

Organised entertainment and promotions-managed the Skipton Medieval Festival for 2001 and 2002.

Arranged at Christmas 2001 and 2002 for free tickets for 200 of the town's children to see "Fairy Tale - A True Story" and "Lord Of The Rings 2"

Appeared in concert with blues singer and TV personality Johnny Silvo for the Mayoress’ Charity in May 2002.

Appeared in Pantomime as “Sir Gadabout” in the 2002 Embsay Players production of “King Arthur & The Nits of the Round Table.”

Organised, produced and MC’d the Skipton Christmas Lights Switch On Show 2002 (This event attracted the biggest ever crowd - over 2000 - and featured more than 70 performers in the line-up)

Produced a Variety Show titled “An Evening of Music, Dance and Magic” for the Skipton Branch of Alzheimer’s Society in July 2003. (I also made a guest appearance singing several songs accompanied by Lucy and Emily Yates and the 10th Skipton Brownies.)

Promoted the town on behalf of the Skipton Chamber of Trade by manning a trade stand as “Mr Personality” at 20 Agricultural Shows and similar events in the spring and summer of 2003.

Opened Denholme and Bradley Galas on behalf of Skipton Chamber of Trade.

Appeared as a journalist in the box-office-hit film “Calendar Girls.”

May 2004 Appeared on Yorkshire TV's "That's Your Lot " - an antiques quiz programme featuring amateurs taking on celebrities (in this case Mollie Sugden among others) and hosted by Richard Whiteley. I won!

Sept 2004 Published A Skipton Anthology - a full-length book made up of three previous books featuring the dark side of Skipton's past. (See 'books' page)

Sept 2004 - Nov 2004 Undertook a 13 date stand up tour of North and West Yorkshire called "Confessions" - (it bombed!).

Oct 2004 Masterminded the second HALLOWEEN HELL walks with more spooks, vampires - and introducing Mongo - the serial killer!

2004/5 Opened a number of summer/winter fairs and galas.

Dec 2004 Created the first (and only!) Netherside Hall Ghost Night (as a spin off from Halloween Hell)  at a huge mansion in private grounds near Grassington, North Yorks. (500 people turned up and swamped it, making it impossible to control.)

May 2005 Created a new persona - Sir Cole Champers-Ravers, a WW2 'cad' who was booked to appear over 3 days at Netherside Hall WW2 celebrations and Harrogate Grammar School WW2 celebrations. (He has since become well known on the 1940's re-enactment scene and sports a dainty soft-shoe shuffle!)

May 2005 Published Keighley's Darkest Secrets - a full-length book featuring the dark side of Keighley's violent past. Launched at Keighley Festival 2005. (See 'books' page)

June 2005 Starred at Keighley Festival 2005, where the book Keighley's Darkest Secrets was launched, while a specially created Keighley's Darkest Secrets Ghost Walk took place over 7 nights.

Aug 2005 Became a roving 'weird history' reporter for BBC Radio Leeds and BBC Radio Bradford with own web page on their site -"History with Hanson." - if you've got something strange that needs investigation - I'm your man

Aug 2005 'Opened up' and compered 4 shows alongside celebrity chef James Martin at the 2 day FEAST Food Festival at Skipton Castle.

Nov 2005 Created and undertook a series of Settle Ghost Walks on behalf of the Chamber of Trade at the Settle Christmas Lights Switch On Ceremony - hopefully to continue in the summer of 2006 for tourists.

Nov 2005 Recreated, and added to, Keighley Darkest Secrets Ghost Walk for the Keighley Christmas Lights Switch On Ceremony.

Dec 2005 Created the first Valletta Ghost Walk in Malta

Jan 2006 Became Valletta's first bona-fide 'ghost walker'.

Feb 2006 Appeared on BBC Radio Leeds "Chewing The Fat" live programme. Formed a spoof Olympic Curling team with the presenter, Graham, and celebrity Stylist Bradley Tayloe - WATCH THIS SPACE!
